The Doctor

Dr. Christel Parish

Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr. Parish grew up in the rural suburbs of Allen, Texas. In 2004 she graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Health and Wellness. She worked in physical therapy and massage before chiropractic, and graduated from Parker College of Chiropractic in January 2012.

While at North Texas she was in an automobile accident and sustained a severe whiplash injury. Months of chiropractic care and physical therapy followed. The recovery changed her path: she stayed on in rehabilitation, learned exercise and continued to help others heal.

In Their Words

Patients who came in with a specific problem

“After only a few visits, my hip problem got better and better. She explained what was going on and taught me rehabilitation exercises and stretches. I am now back to running my four miles a day.”

Lindsay Shuttlesworth
Patient

“I can’t say enough about the quality of care and knowledge. Physical therapy had not resolved hip pain from an auto accident. Dr. Parish worked with me to strengthen the joint, improve range of motion, and ease the pain.”

Kimberly Sanford
Patient

“Dr. Parish treats what needs to be treated. She does not set you up with long-term treatment plans. She listens, and she treats accordingly. Since going to her, I have not had any back issues.”

The reason that the neck is vulnerable is that the neck region contains many delicate, pain sensitive structures that are commonly exposed to abuse and stresses. Most of the time, neck pain is not caused by serious issues, but rather by strain from poor posture. Unlike prescription drugs, most chiropractic procedures address the cause of the majority of neck problems, not simply the symptoms. Best of all, chiropractic care is safe, natural, and noninvasive, with no side effects!

When to See a Chiropractor:

Here are some of the most common indications that you may have an issue in the neck region and should seek chiropractic care:

  • Muscle spasms
  • Fatigue
  • Neck stiffness
  • Pain in the upper-back
  • Pain in the shoulders
  • The neck is sensitivity to touch and pressure
  • Headaches

Types of Neck Pain

The two most common types of neck pain are: acute and chronic neck pain. Acute neck pain will often improve on its own, through self-care, and treating the cause of neck pain. If acute neck pain does not improve within a few weeks, you should consider seeing a chiropractor. Chronic neck pain is a recurring pain that usually does not respond to long-term use of pain medication. Natural therapies, including chiropractic care can prove more beneficial. Psychological and social factors also contribute to chronic neck pain. Dr. Parish can the root cause and provide a treatment plan to address the issues.

Causes of Neck Pain

There are several possible causes for neck pain. They can even get more serious if left untreated or could possibly be a sign of another condition. This is why it is important to talk to a chiropractor to help diagnose the cause and determine the proper treatment. Here are a few of the most common causes:

  • Muscle Strains
  • Stress
  • Vertebral Subluxation
  • Herniated Disc
  • Auto Accident Injuries
  • Spine or Back Problems

How We Treat Neck Pain

For most people, neck pain goes away on its own after a few days or weeks. But for some, it becomes chronic and debilitating and lasts for months or years. It is a challenging condition to diagnose, treat, and study. Our treatments primarily focus on the cause of your problems, which not only results in rapid and effective pain-relief, but most importantly, minimizes the chance of future neck pain.

Every patient is different, so the first plan of action when our chiropractor treats your neck pain is to use various tests and imaging to determine what is the root cause. From there your chiropractor will create a program just for you. Oftentimes we start with the chiropractic adjustment, which restores the biomechanics of the joints. From there, if necessary we can recommend a nutrition plan to help with pain management, as well as guide you through physiotherapy to stabilize the joints through rehabilitation exercises. Our goal is to restore your body to its full function, as well as relieve the pain.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
